Nutrition Counseling
Is nutrition counseling right for you?
Maybe the thought of talking about the ways you have failed with food makes you cringe.
You might feel ashamed of your body or feel like it is fundamentally flawed.
You might feel unsure of what working with a dietitian looks like and feel scared of being seen navigating something you think you should be able to deal with on your own.
Maybe you fear being judged for the food choices you make, whether that’s eating something you think you shouldn’t or getting takeout even though you have a stocked fridge.
Many of my clients come to me with a long history of not getting the help they need. They fear being seen or, worse, being rejected.
When it comes to their relationship with food and their body, they look around and see other people who are managing just fine. My clients often feel like imposters because other people aren’t able to see how much they are struggling beneath the surface. Just because you are managing to mask how much you are struggling does not mean that you don’t need or deserve help.
You deserve to have your difficulties with food and your body understood and addressed.
Nutrition counseling will help make sense of the tangled mess of information you have received about food and health. My goal is for you to walk away feeling confident in your ability to feed and care for your body. I am here to help with non-judgmental and compassionate guidance.
Before you commit to ongoing work with me, I offer all clients a free 20 minute intro call to answer any questions you may have about working together and make sure we are a good fit.
Your context and your complexities matter
In our first session, we will spend 75 minutes together so that I can learn more about you and begin developing our treatment plan. I don’t know about you, but my brain loves context.
This first appointment is our big picture “brain dump” where I get to learn about your history and what led you to the relationship you currently have with food and your body.
You will get some paperwork prior to this session that will give you a chance to share info with me ahead of time (like the medications you take and relevant health history), so that we can focus this time on diving deeper. Hearing your story is what allows me to develop a treatment plan that is individualized to you.
My goal for this first session is for you to walk away feeling heard and to start forming our treatment goals together.
After this session, I will spend more time synthesizing the information you shared with me and making notes of what tools may be helpful in our work together moving forward. Learning about you and developing the goals of your treatment is an ongoing process, this is just the first step.
Moving from context to connecting the dots
Follow up sessions look a little different and are individualized to your concerns. We will always check in on the goals we are working on and there will be space to bring up new concerns that may have developed since our last meeting.
We will get into the proverbial “weeds” of the way you think, feel and behave when faced with the realities of your relationship to food and your body.
This includes exploring how the dominate narratives about food, nutrition and health inform your thinking and the actual nitty-gritty logistics of improving your life.
I typically recommend weekly 60-minute follow up sessions at the beginning of our work together.
This is what allows us the space to really dig into the issues you are facing and lay a solid foundation together.
Depending on your situation, we may choose to decrease the frequency or duration of our sessions as time goes on to give you more time to practice what we have worked on in your real life.

I understand that nutrition counseling is an investment of your precious time, energy and money. Making my services accessible, especially to those most impacted by the systems of oppression that fuel diet culture, is a value and priority of mine. I also know that the only way I can do this work for as long as I hope to is by earning an income that sustains me. While there are not individual solutions that can entirely resolve systems of inequality, it is my goal to be in community with the clients I serve and reduce the harm enacted by systems of oppression.
